Our Heartbeat
It is in our heart to be able to be part of bringing our Tropical identity to life. That more people will love and embrace who we are and where we are from. We believe what we have is beautiful. Batik is a textile that has roots in our motherland that now carries that nostalgic wonder. We feel privilege to find delight and joy in working with this beautiful textile art called batik as well being a pioneer and forerunner in ingraining this traditional art into our everyday lives and our future. We love very much that batik carries culture, heritage identity to our beloved country and her own personality.
Birth
Having studied Fashion Design in Sydney, Australia and bagging a few competition wins in Australia. She obtained a scholarship during her final year to do a Masters in Fashion as Art in Florence, Italy. Upon returning to her motherland, Malaysia she went on a different journey and taught in High schools for 2 years before living in the Island of Boracay, Philippines to do social work for another 2 years. As she set her sails back unto the tropics where she grew up as a child, she felt and knew it was time for KANOE to be born. And with this new birth, comes a new adventure.
KANOE was born on the 31st of October 2016.
Our Journey
Recently we have been working closely with local batik makers. Supporting the local batik makers their passion and their craft. Furthermore, from the beginning of KANOE we have worked closely with the refugee communities who is linked to fair trade organisations in Malaysia. We also believe in zero waste henceforth you will find smaller accessories made of fabrics from our clothing lines as well batik remnants sold in store.
